Dartmoor Gliding News – Saturday 3rd August 2013

The forecast was for showers, some heavy and possibly thundery in the increasing SW wind and this is pretty much what we got.

The increasing blustery winds made today promised and delivered “interesting approaches. So no early solo pilots today but with 5 instructors and 2 two seat gliders available everyone who wanted to fly did so.

The only solo flying today was Matthew Wiles in the K13 and  Bob in his ASW20 looking to soar on the shower fronts as they came past. However, their timing wasn’t quite right and they seem to find the showers.  In fact Bob landed in what was the heaviest shower of the day.

Visitor Rob Wilkinson
There was some soaring by the 2 seaters in the lively thermals ahead of the showers. Great fun.
We welcomed several air experience visitors today, Rob Wilkinson, Jason Jump, Heather  Deacon and Beverley Casterton. They all seemed to enjoy their introductions to gliding.

Beverley Casterton enjoyed a soaring flight
Elsewhere on the airfield, Sunday regular David Parker competed his winch training and was signed off. Well done David. John Bolt spent his day in the workshop completing the inspection of the “new” K8 and working his way through the “to do” list. Thanks John.

A useful flying day.

Steve
