Dartmoor Gliding News - Sunday 9th October 2022

The forecast of a moderate southerly wind gusting to 25knts was the probable reason for the low turn out today. However after checking the airfield and realising the wind did not appear to be as strong as the forecast predicted, we decided to give it a go. One K13 was taken to the launch point and the K8's were left safely in the hangar.

First to venture into the air with me was Sean Westrope. During the flight I realised that conditions were not suitable for the one day course candidate, Sue Mortimer, who had arrived to fly with us today. She will re-book in the future.  Turbulence in the air and on the approach also deemed that Sean would not really get much benefit from continuing his training.

The only person at the airfield that wanted to have a flight was visitor Richard Lovell-Butt. Richard who usually flies with Navy Gliding at Middle Wallop was visiting the area for an annual reunion in Plymouth. He has previously flown with us when visiting last year. This year he re-aquainted himself with N3 (G-CFSD) that he had flown many times at Lee-on-Solent when the Navy Gliding Club was based there.

Richard Re-aquainted with N3
So only two flights due to the conditions we packed the kit away and retired to the clubhouse. After teas and lunch, Sean was subjected to some ground school ready for his next lessons in the air. Approach Control and Circuit planning were signed off on his record card.

Thank you to the few who were at the club today and made the effort to at least give it a try.
