Dartmoor Gliding News - Saturday 29th June 2024

The day started with 8/8 cloud courtesy of a near by slow moving front. RASP suggested some improved soaring conditions later with light winds from the SW backing westerly later. So, not a cross country day but some local soaring and lots of training opportunities.

High cirrus with a few cumulus clouds early in the day.
It did brighten up considerably later
Plenty of visitors today with Christopher Infield for a One Day Course and Paul Granger, Paul Ford and Dan Kirby have Air Experience flights. Also visiting was ex solo pilot 90 years young Grahame White returning after his One Day Course last week.

The soaring conditions were a little difficult but were available from before 11am until well after 6pm. There were several notable flights made. Mike Jardine ( Std Cirrus ) 1:08, Rick Wiles (Std Cirrus) 1:05, Malcolm Wilton-Jones ( K8 ) 1:04. There were also 6 flights around the half hour mark.

K13 landing on the north side heading west

Puchacz downwind passing the Cirrus
Std Cirrus climbing nicely at 2000ft QFE and ...
Overflying on the way to a hangar landing
An enjoyable club day.
